AMD Ornamental
Cable Stair Railing Contractor in Southwest Florida
AMD Ornamental designs, fabricates and installs cable stair railing for custom homes and residential renovations throughout Southwest Florida. As a railing contractor with an in-house Cape Coral fabrication shop, AMD Ornamental can build the metal framework around the actual staircase geometry rather than treating the railing as a collection of standard parts. That matters on stairs, where post locations, cable paths, landings, turns and transitions all affect how clean and coordinated the finished railing looks.

AMD created some Bahama looking louvered inserts for my new home and did a great job on both the quality and the install. I had to have them back to correct one part of it and they did without hesitation. If you need quality decorative or ornamental metal work on your home, inside or outside, Mark & AMD Ornamental is a winning way to go. Mark, thank you for coming through with flying colors! I used Mark on my second build a few years ago and they did a great job on everything from louvered architectural features, porch railings, stairs, pool railing. I think there is nothing that he cannot make.Posted on Google![]()

We recently had AMD Ornamental design and install a custom spiral staircase and luxury staircase railings for our home in Naples, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results! Mark and the metal fabricator team guided us through the entire construction process and helped us choose the perfect stair and railing materials. The combination of our glass railing, wrought iron railings and metal cable railing mixed with horizontal aluminum stair railing gives our home a modern look. We did both interior railings inside as loft railing and exterior railing as balcony railing outside. Our main issue is that we needed the metal fabrication shop that all the high end home builders, and other railing contractors go to, because we did not want thin metal and plastic cheap kits ordered over the internet. We found out that AMD Ornamental is the direct source that luxury staircase railing builders use. They are not just the stair builder and railing installers but are firstly the actual shop that hand builds and welds each piece. Our first time around we did not know to ask that question so I hope that helps whoever sees this. They also are the high end metal fabrication shop. So their attention to detail for every handmade part of our luxury staircase railings, the spiral staircase, and the glass railing was made by them … it was not made by an unknown third party. They also installed balcony and deck railings, which not only also felt safer because it is thick metal. If you're looking for a reliable railing company in Naples that specializes in spiral staircases, aluminum railings, wrought iron railings, luxury staircase glass railing and more, I highly recommend AMD Ornamental as the first railing contractor to call. I felt comfortable they are very nice. Another nice aspect is that there was no salesman and only an easy high end experience. They’re truly the best railing contractor near me in SWFL!Posted on Google![]()

Best railing company in Naples. Nice people. AMD Ornamental did a great job as the railing contractor and the cable railing and glass railing installation was high end work. They are not just the railing installer and stair builder but actually are the high end metal fabricator shop too. Their metal shop hand built and welded every part of the luxury staircase and railings including the ornamental railing made out of aluminum which I drew. There is not even one blemish in the complex art I asked for. Now I understand why all the luxury home builders here in Naples and Marco island only use AMD Ornamental to make and install their metal and glass railing company as the contractor. Looking forward to having them build a trellis and metal sunshade for our exterior deck next month.Posted on Google![]()

Making baha shudders, rails, large sunshades, and all out of aluminum. Also dabbling in steal work. Fabrication, repairs, and whatever people can think of with metal. If it makes money run it by them. More than likely, the job can get done.
Cable Stair Railing Contractor for Southwest Florida Custom Homes
A cable railing system can give a staircase a lighter visual profile than a traditional railing with closely spaced vertical pickets. The horizontal cable lines remain visible, but they allow much of the stair structure, flooring and surrounding architecture to remain open to view.
That makes cable especially relevant to contemporary residences, open two-story interiors and staircases intended to become an architectural feature of the home.
AMD Ornamental works with homeowners, custom-home builders and designers who need more than a railing selected from a catalog. The company fabricates the supporting metal components and installs the finished railing, allowing the staircase condition, railing design and installation to be considered together.
Cable stair railing may be used along:
Straight residential stair runs
Upper-floor landings
Open stairwells
Interior overlooks
Staircases that turn at intermediate landings
Modern architectural stairs
Floating-stair applications
Stairs connecting to adjoining cable railing at an upper level
For projects where the broader stair guard design is still being evaluated, AMD Ornamental also provides custom residential stair railings in other configurations.
Cable Railing for Straight, Turning and Open Stair Configurations
Stair railing has more geometry to resolve than railing installed along a single flat edge. The rail follows the rise of the staircase, meets level landings, changes direction at turns and may continue around an upstairs opening before descending again.
Cable makes those relationships especially visible.
Each horizontal cable line needs to relate cleanly to the posts and surrounding railing. Where a stair meets a landing, the angled cable pattern on the stair transitions into the level lines of the landing railing. On a turning staircase, post placement and the direction of the railing have to be considered together so the finished system reads as one design rather than disconnected sections.
In an open two-story residence, for example, cable railing may descend beside the staircase and then continue around the upper-floor opening. From the main living area, the homeowner sees the stair, landing and overlook at the same time. Consistent alignment and deliberate transitions become part of the architecture.
Custom Cable Stair Railing Fabrication and Installation
AMD Ornamental fabricates custom residential railing components in its Cape Coral weld and machine shop and installs the work it builds.
For cable stair railing, in-house fabrication is important because the supporting metalwork defines the path of the entire cable system. Posts, top rails, mounting conditions, corners and stair-to-landing transitions all need to fit the actual residence.
The process can involve field measurement and coordination with conditions such as:
Finished stair dimensions
Upper and lower landings
Finished flooring
Open stairwell edges
Walls and columns
Changes in railing direction
Inside and outside corners
Connections between stair railing and level railing
Adjacent architectural features
Post placement is considered as part of both the physical railing layout and its visual rhythm. A stair with too many poorly coordinated interruptions can look unnecessarily busy, while the correct arrangement must also support the intended cable railing configuration. AMD Ornamental approaches these conditions as a fabricated railing system rather than prescribing one universal spacing pattern for every staircase.
Cable tension is another part of the completed assembly. The cables create long, highly visible horizontal lines, so consistent cable paths, properly coordinated termination points and careful installation influence the appearance of the finished railing.
AMD Ornamental handles fabrication and installation as connected parts of the project instead of separating shop work from what ultimately has to fit at the staircase.
Cable Stair Railing for Floating and Modern Staircases
Cable railing pairs naturally with modern stair architecture because both can emphasize structure without visually enclosing the staircase.
On a floating or open stair design, the stair itself may already be intended to look light within the room. Thin horizontal cable lines can maintain that visual direction while fabricated posts and rails establish a defined edge around the stair and upper landing.
The railing still has a strong visual presence. Cable is not invisible. Its appearance comes from repeated horizontal lines, the spacing and proportions of the metal posts, the top rail and the way the entire assembly follows the staircase.
For residences specifically combining cable railing with an architectural floating staircase, see AMD Ornamental’s work with floating stairs and cable railing.
A coordinated floating-stair application may include railing along the descending stair, around an upper landing or second-floor opening, or both. Planning those areas together allows the metalwork and cable lines to relate to the stair rather than appearing added after the staircase has already been resolved.
How Cable Changes the Look of a Residential Staircase
Cable railing creates a distinctly horizontal appearance.
Instead of a row of vertical balusters, the eye sees narrow cable lines stretching between fabricated posts. From across the room, the staircase can remain visually connected to the surrounding interior because there is less solid material between the viewer and the stair.
The posts and rails still influence the character of the installation. A more substantial metal frame gives the railing a stronger architectural outline. A restrained supporting structure allows the horizontal cable pattern to become more prominent.
Material selection also affects the finished expression. AMD Ornamental works with residential railing materials that can include aluminum, steel, stainless steel and cable where appropriate to the design. Material choices for an interior staircase may be evaluated differently from an exterior stair exposed to Southwest Florida conditions.
The goal is not simply to specify “cable railing.” It is to determine how the cables, fabricated metalwork and staircase should look together.
Cable Railing Along Stairs and Upper-Floor Landings
One of the most important residential cable railing conditions occurs where a staircase reaches an upper floor.
The railing may need to change from an angled stair run to a level landing railing. That level section can continue beside a hallway, loft, interior balcony or open stairwell.
These transitions are highly visible in open-plan homes. From downstairs, a person may see several sections of railing at once. Post alignment, rail heights, changes in direction and the horizontal cable pattern all contribute to whether the overall installation looks coordinated.
The same consideration applies during renovation. Existing flooring, finished walls, stair construction and surrounding architectural details can influence how new railing is measured, fabricated and installed. Custom fabrication gives AMD Ornamental the ability to respond to those actual conditions rather than forcing the residence around a predetermined railing layout.
Cable, Glass or Solid Metal for a Staircase?
Cable is one of several railing directions available for a custom residential staircase, and each creates a different visual result.
Cable railing creates repeated thin horizontal lines. It can work particularly well when the homeowner wants an open appearance but still wants visible metal detailing.
Glass produces a different effect. Large clear panels minimize the number of visual lines crossing the stair opening and can make adjoining floors appear more continuously connected.
Solid horizontal metal railing creates stronger, more pronounced architectural bands. Ornamental metal can introduce decorative shapes and detailing when the residence calls for a more traditional or expressive metal design.
The right choice depends on the architecture, the staircase, the desired sightlines and how much visual presence the railing should have. AMD Ornamental can fabricate a railing around those design priorities rather than treating one system as appropriate for every home.
Why In-House Fabrication Matters on Stair Railing
A staircase exposes fabrication details that are easy to notice.
Angled rails need to follow the stair consistently. Posts have to meet stair and landing conditions cleanly. Horizontal lines reveal changes in alignment. Corners and transitions need to appear deliberate from multiple viewing angles.
AMD Ornamental’s in-house fabrication capability allows these details to be considered before installation. The company’s Cape Coral operation includes welding, machining, metalworking and custom fabrication capabilities used to build residential railing and architectural metalwork.
That control is particularly valuable when a staircase has custom geometry or when the railing must coordinate with a builder’s, designer’s or homeowner’s architectural direction.

Their backgrounds support the kind of measurement, fabrication judgment and attention to fit that custom stair railing requires.
Planning Cable Stair Railing With a Builder or Designer
Cable stair railing should be considered early enough for the railing fabricator to understand the staircase and the finished architectural conditions.
For new construction, useful project information can include architectural plans, the intended stair configuration, upper-floor railing locations, material preferences and the overall design direction. As construction progresses, actual field conditions and finished dimensions become important to fabrication and installation.
For a renovation, the starting point may instead be an existing stair and railing that the homeowner wants to replace. The new railing then has to relate to conditions that are already built, including flooring, landings, walls and the stair structure.
AMD Ornamental works with residential homeowners, builders and designers to translate those conditions into a fabricated cable railing installation suited to the specific staircase.
Cable Stair Railing Buyer Questions
Does AMD Ornamental fabricate and install cable stair railing?
Yes. AMD Ornamental fabricates custom residential railing components in its Cape Coral shop and installs the railing it builds. This allows fabrication decisions and field installation conditions to be coordinated as part of the same project.
Can cable railing continue from the staircase around an upstairs opening?
Yes, that is a normal residential railing configuration. An angled cable stair railing can transition into level railing around an upper-floor landing, loft, interior balcony or open stairwell. The transition, posts and cable alignment need to be planned as part of the complete railing layout.
Is cable railing suitable for a floating staircase?
Cable railing can work very well with modern and floating-stair architecture when the desired design calls for thin horizontal lines and a relatively open visual barrier. The staircase geometry, supporting metalwork and railing layout should be considered together.
What should a homeowner, builder or designer provide when discussing a cable stair railing project?
Plans, photographs, drawings, material preferences and information about the staircase and adjoining landings are useful starting points. For custom fabrication, actual field conditions and measurements are also important before the final railing is built.
